100TH ANNIVERSARY EXHIBIT

The Boy Scouts of America’s 100th anniversary represents much more than a date on the calendar. It represents an important milestone around which to reintroduce Scouting to America - to celebrate the rich heritage and to reinforce the important role Scouting can play in shaping our country’s future. Among other aspects of Scouting, this exhibit explores Scouting culture, the Order of the Arrow, Cub Scouts, camping & outdoor skills, and the influence of Scouting on popular culture.

"ANIMALS AROUND US"

Explore how animals have helped people in Waukesha County and how to care for animals around us today. Includes special appearances by sled dogs and staff from HAWS! Activities will meet or work toward the achievements and electives listed below, but all Cub Scouts are welcome to participate in all activities:
Tiger Cubs:

Achievement 4f: Visit an important place in your community, such as a historic location.

Fair Employment in Wisconsin

Virginia Huebner’s accomplishments and contributions to the history of fair employment practices in Wisconsin. Miss Huebner was instrumental in opening employment opportunity to all in the state from 1945-1970. This presentation highlights her work for black workers, women, older workers, and the disabled. Part of the presentation will highlight her work with the Milwaukee Urban League, B’nai B’rith, and Elks and their recognition of her with awards.
The presentation will include audio and video elements – including rare radio ‘jingles’ used by Miss Huebner during public speaking events to erase prejudice based on color. Actual awards from groups she worked with and photos of her with two U.S. Presidents will also be on display.
Tickets are $3/person or $50 for 20.

Lad and Dad/Mom and Me Cub Scout Overnight
Limited to the first 100 registrants!
Spend the night at the museum. Visit the BSA 100th Anniversary exhibit, Boy Scout-themed crafts and activities, watch the film Follow Me Boys!, tell stories and sing songs at an indoor campfire. Camp out in the historic courtroom. Enjoy a continental breakfast.
$20 / person.

THE NATURE OF DOGS EXHIBIT
April 10 - June 12
Fine art animal photographer Mary Ludington seeks to capture the true nature of dogs, their beauty, character and spirit. Any dog owner will tell you that there is a profound and mysterious connection between humans and their dogs. Sixty striking photographs capture the particular personalities of the different breeds, whether caught in midstride or in an hour of well-earned repose. Presented in cooperation with the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS).

Celebrate the opening of the Nature of Dogs special exhibit with WKLH mid-day host, Marilynn Mee, and HAWS mascot, Lucky, between noon and 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 10. Bring your dog between 12 and 2 and get a treat bag for your pets. Visit the HAWS Mobile Adoption Unit, and maybe you’ll find your new best friend!
Junior Girl Scout Pet Care Open House
Saturday “April 17, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Discover the fun and responsibilities of taking care of a pet by completing the Pet Care Badge. Activities will include finding out how animals communicate, creating a pet scrapbook, learning about groups and places that care for animals, pet-centered games and activities with Humane Animal Welfare Society staff, meeting the HAWS mascot “Lucky,” and exploring the special “Nature of Dogs” exhibit.

Rescue Night
Friday April 23, 5:00 – 8:00 pm
Explore the Nature of Dogs special exhibit and the personalities of various dog breeds with the photographer, Mary Ludington, who uses her medium to capture the true nature of dogs, their beauty, character, and spirit. Visit the HAWS Mobile Adoption unit, and you may find your new best friend! Free with museum admission.

Brownie Girl Scout Animals Open House

Explore the world of pets and wild animals by completing the Animals Try-It. Activities will include learning how to care for a pet, moving like an animal, discovering why animals are shaped the way they are, playing animal sounds charades, pet-centered games and activities with Humane Animal Welfare Society staff, meeting the HAWS mascot “Lucky,” and exploring the special “Nature of Dogs” exhibit.
